Engineered hardwood flooring is a relatively new option that currently makes up about 40% of all new wood installations. Each plank is created by laminating three to seven layers of composite wood together, rather than a single piece of premium hardwood. Therefore, solid and engineered wood floors look identical from the surface.

Due to its extra stability, engineered hardwood is better suited for humid climates, as well as above and below-ground settings.
